Eco-sustainable set-ups
Why it is important to focus on green
Eco-friendly set-ups for shops, offices, trade fairs and major events are an increasingly popular trend, as companies are increasingly aware of the environmental impact of their activities and try to minimise them. In addition, it is consumers themselves who tend to require companies to be extra careful in demonstrating their green credentials.
According to a report published by Ufi (the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry), 73% of visitors agree on the centrality of environmental protection among the priorities of a fair and as many as 36% would not participate in a fair that did not meet ecological standards. Also according to the same report, seven out of ten exhibitors are investing in adopting eco-sustainable installations.
So eco-friendly installations not only help protect the environment, but can also improve the image and customer experience, increase audience participation and reduce running costs. After all, the theme of eco-sustainable furniture has been central to the green economy for several years now. According to another very interesting report, the 2022 Grand View Research, the global eco-friendly furniture market size was valued at USD 43.26 billion in 2022 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.6% from 2022 to 2030. According to this report, the growing consumer awareness of sustainability and the growing inclusion of sustainable raw materials is strongly pushing the market for eco-sustainable furniture.

This trend has obviously oriented the subject of international conferences and exhibitions on furniture, design, fittings and furnishings in general. The Italian Design Day is a thematic exhibition that aims to promote Italian design in the world organized, since 2017, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration and with the support of the Ministry of Culture. The theme of the IDD2022 was “Re-Generation, Design and new technologies for the sustainable future” also dealing extensively with the topic of sustainable installations proposed as the alternative future for temporary events.
To return to eco-sustainable installations, they can be obtained through the use of recyclable and biodegradable materials, such as cardboard, FSC-certified wood, organic fabrics and natural materials such as straw and cane. Among the most advantageous solutions, both for the environment and for costs, there are the set-ups with cardboard furnishings and furniture, let’s see why:
- Cardboard is a 100% recyclable material;
- Production requires far fewer resources than other materials such as plastic, wood or metal:
- Being very light, the transport of cardboard furniture requires less energy and generates less CO2 emissions than other materials;
- The furnishings can be designed and customized according to the specific needs of each event, from exhibitions to conferences, but they can also be used on multiple occasions, further reducing their environmental impact. For example, a company that regularly organizes trade fairs can use the same cardboard furniture for multiple events, thus avoiding having to buy new ones for each occasion;
- Cardboard can be easily shaped and cut in order to create unique and original furnishings;
- Cardboard furniture is very versatile and can be used to create the most disparate solutions, from partition walls to seats, from tables to display cabinets. This makes them an ideal tool for a wide range of events and setups, as they can be tailored to the specific needs of each occasion.
- Cardboard furniture is often cheaper than other materials, but above all it is very easy to assemble and disassemble. These aspects save companies time and money and make environmentally friendly cardboard stands a very attractive option for companies looking to reduce the costs of their stands.
