Natural cardboard set-up for temporary events

Sustainable furniture for a sustainable future

Hangar Bicocca Foundation

Via Chiese, 2 - 20126 Milan

An ecological set-up was considered the ideal match for the presentation of the new digital platform of the Lombardy Region created to promote projects for a more sustainable future.

In Rete is a prestigious Italian communication agency that offers strategic consulting services to large companies and public bodies that with dedication and great competence guides its partners towards a successful future. The agency commissioned us at Natur Design to create an ecological set-up for the presentation of Lombardy 2030 , a section of the Open Innovation platform that aims to collect projects in line with the social, environmental and economic development of the region itself. Lombardy 2030 is dedicated to citizen participation, collaboration and the design of a sustainable future in line with the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

The event was held in November at the Pirelli Hangar Bicocca Foundation, a dynamic place for experimentation and research, which is one of the largest horizontally developed exhibition spaces in Europe and saw the meeting between public administration and stakeholders to mark a path of growth and redesign the trajectories to be followed in the light of profound economic and geopolitical changes.

Cardboard becomes a complement of art if inserted in a space that makes art its essence. Of the surface area of 15,000 square meters, we set up a part with tables and chairs that served as a meeting, sharing and discussion point for the personalities who flocked to the event. The biggest challenge was to harmonize the natural cardboard furniture with the industrial atmosphere of the hangar. The large sheet metal walls, the soft lights and the large art installations representing almost decadent towers, underlined the urgency of projects for a more sustainable future for the protection of the environment and the entire country. Our sustainable event furniture responded promptly to the call. We therefore opted for brown cardboard tables from the large size Otro series, resistant and sober with an ecological light laminate top and the printing of the logo of the region and the numbering on the surface. For the seats we have chosen the Ventina line with a linear and simple style with a comfortable light upholstery padding. Along the way, self-supporting panels of the Toula line were placed printed with the graphics of the event that served as reference points for the public. We have not neglected the safety aspect either, in a period when the pandemic is still a threat, providing cardboard gel columns for hand washing.
